6/26/2005 ~ Significance of Reading the Word of God
... for the joy of the LORD is your strength ... ~ Nehemiah 8:1-12
└─> God's word was studied for hours while standing out of respect.
... in order to understand the words of the Law. ... ~ Nehemiah 8:13-18
So they wanted to learn more.
They studied with an open heart freshly
≈ We need to do what it says.
Scripture takes priority over tradition.
... read from the Book of the Law of the LORD their God ... ~ Nehemiah 9:1-3
└─> Reading more of the word.
They confessed and worshipped.
A long prayer follows.
-> We need to spend more time praying.
Do we talk to God?
Our conversation with God should include scripture.
We pray too economically as Ameicans.
God wants us to talk to Him and open our hearts to Him.
... We make a sure covenant and write it; ... ~ Nehemiah 9:38
... and their villages; in Lachish and its fields; ... ~ Nehemiah 10:28-32
└─> Willing to comit.
~ Here is what we are willing to do.
We can be indefinite until we get down to specifics.
... So it was, when they had heard the Law, ... ~ Nehemiah 13:1-3
└─> Forceful man.
There are things more important than being nice.
... struck some of them and pulled out their hair, ... ~ Nehemiah 13:25
If reading the word of God in Nehemian times was that important,
how much more is it today.
The word of God is the suave for the heart of the soul of man.
~ Commitment to study His words.
