Now it happened, ..., that they watched Him closely. ... ~ Luke 14:1-6 ○ Again Jesus was on the spot. Dropsy = Water retention. Jesus wants them to tell Him, He asks. They could not reply. ~ It is easier to accuse than to answer. Jesus is always composed, always says the perfect thing. His will is to instruct and teach. Always easier to criticize than to help. Some people are ready to critique and never ready to help. When you are part of the solution it changes your perspective. Saying, "What are you (others) going to do," is wrong. ~ We need to be part of the team. ... For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, ... ~ Luke 14:7-11 We should not promote ourselves but be recognized by others. People are not eager to work but eager to be boss. Campaigning for status is wrong. "... lest they also invite you back, and you be repaid." ~ Luke 14:12 Invite the people that need it the most. We need to serve with no eye to our benefit. ... "Blessed is he who shall eat bread in the kingdom of God!" ~ Luke 14:15 Jesus is tender at times but always very frank and truthful. He is worried more about our well being than our feelings. We need to receive rebukes well. ... A certain man gave a great supper and invited many, ... ~ Luke 14:16-24 The guests snubbed the host. → The Lord is preparing a spiritual feast. Do not let worldly ties or social commitments hinder one's worship of God. ... weighed down with carousing, drunkenness, and cares of this life, ... ~ Luke 21:34 "... let him not turn back." ~ Luke 17:31 ... cares, riches, and pleasures of life, and bring no fruit to maturity. ~ Luke 8:14 "... he cannot be my disciple." ~ Luke 14:26 Do not get bogged down in the world. What value do we place on God? Too often we get too attached to things. The original guests did not love the kingdom of God, ~ the heavenly banquet. One must not miss the Lord’s dinner or what He has to offer. Do you place a high priority on the Lord and His gospel? |
