SERMON MENU SELECTIONS3/30/2008 ~ What God Wants us to Put On |

... do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. ... ~ Matthew 6:24-34 Allow your faith to overwhelm your worry. God wants us to be in the here and Now serving Him. I do this sermon for three reasons: 1) For everyone with enough courage to proclaim it before me. ~ To be part of the Great Commission commanded by Christ. 2) As a tool to teach myself of what God wants of us. 3) To preach His word helping others focus on His truths. How we look on the inside makes all the difference to God. ┌─> How a woman might win her unbelieving husband to Christ. Do not let your adornment be merely outward ... ~ 1st Peter 3:3-4 └─> Can be said of men and women alike; souls of God. We are asked to put off the old man and put on the new man. ... that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man ... ~ Ephesians 4:17-25
There are specific directives concerning the old man verses the new man. ... put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; bearing with one another, and forgiving ... ~ Colossians 3:8-14
Immature Love states that I love you because I need you. Mature Love states that I love you because I want you. ◎ We need to want God more than needing Him. Perhaps repeating sins makes us need Him more than naturally choosing to please Him and in so, wanting Him. We are asked to put off the body of the sins of the flesh. ... putting off the body of the sins of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ, buried with Him in baptism, ... ~ Colossians 2:11-12 We are asked to cast off the works of darkness, to put on the armor of light. ... put on the Lord Jesus Christ, ... ~ Romans 13:12-14 The works of the flesh are evident, Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: ... ~ Galatians 5:19-21 We need the whole armor of light to defend against the darkness. We are told to rely on the mightiness of our God. ... Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. ... ~ Ephesians 6:10-16
God's instructions are clear. He tells us exactly what he hates. These six things the LORD hates, Yes, seven are an abomination to Him: ... ~ Proverbs 6:16-19 He tells us what we should hold as dear. ... add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, to knowledge self-control, ... ~ 2nd Peter 1:5-8 A time is coming for all of us when we must shed our tent, our corruptible earthen vessel, and put on incorruption in the face of God. ... we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. ... ~ 1st Corinthians 15:51-58
God is calling to us to choose Him. ... the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever. ~ 1st John 2:15-17 It is Christ who is calling us. "Abide in Me, and I in you. ..." ~ John 15:4 We all have a date with fate. When the end comes, what will it be that you have put on, off? ... he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life. ~ Galatians 6:7-8 We need to hold the righteousness of God's word close. In the way of righteousness is life, And in its pathway there is no death. ~ Proverbs 12:28 What does God’s righteous word tell us? We are called to be stregthened with Christ inwardly dwelling in our hearts. ... be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; ... ~ Ephesians 3:14-19 It is not uncleanness but in holiness we are called to service. For God did not call us to uncleanness, but in holiness. ... ~ 1st Thessalonians 4:7-8 We are all one in Christ. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. ... ~ Galatians 3:27-28 Will you be ready to meet God? The question is, are you in Christ?
'And now why are you waiting? Arise and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord.' ~ Acts 22:16 We need to overcome ourselves and put on Christ - the Light. Thank God He has offered us salvation. "... He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life." ~ John 8:12 If you have not been baptized for the remission of sins, you remain in the darkness of your sins hopeless of the promise. Do you want to live forever and if so, why are you waiting? Take the Plunge and Stand for God. |
