3/23/2008 ~ Three Things Lost


┌─> Accused Jesus as an unclean sinner.                    
... "This Man receives sinners and eats with them." ~ Luke 15:1-2
  └─> Judged by association.                                            

Everyone needs the mercy of God.


... longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish
but that all should come to repentance. ~ 2nd Peter 3:9


Redundancy is good in teaching clarity.

So He spoke this parable to them, saying: ... ~ Luke 15:3-10

There is value in finding, returning to, what is lost.
   100 Sheep Loses One
   10 Silver Coins Loses One
   1 Father Loses His One Son   

"... 'How many of my father's hired servants have bread enough
and to spare, and I perish with hunger!' ..." ~ Luke 15:11-17


Excessive indulgence leads to despair.

For if we sin willfully after we have recieved the knowledge of the
truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, ... ~ Hebrews 10:26-27


Discounting consequences does not exempt one from punishment.

... "A dog returns to his own vomit," and, "a sow, having washed,
to her wallowing in the mire." ~ 2nd Peter 2:22


Sin can hold us longer than we want it to.

... Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about
like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. ~ 1st Peter 5:7-8


We need to call God home.

... I am no longer worthy to be called your son.
Make me like one of your hired servants." ' ~ Luke 15:18-19


Submit to God.
True repentance is away from the self.
The self is the source of sin.


... each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires ...
~ James 1:12-14


Your weakness is waiting for you, there in your comfort zone.
~ Work on controlling your desires, what is in you.
Love God more than yourself.


... when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin,
when it is full-grown, brings forth death. ~ James 1:15


'... for this my son was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.' ...
~ Luke 15:20-24


The son wanted to be dead to sin; the Father rejoiced.

"... Therefore his father came out and pleaded with him." ~ Luke 15:25-28
                    └─> Father advocates for the younger son.

He cares for each of his children to be at home with him.


" '... right that we should make merry and be glad, for your brother was
dead and is alive again, and was lost and is found.' " ~ Luke 15:29-32


Do not disassociate yourself from the hope of all souls.
                      To be saved. <─┘
The Pharisees and Scribes were self righteous,
jealous, envious, judging others.
~ Denying the love of God.


"... For many are called, but few are chosen." ~ Matthew 22:1-14

God loves us more than ourselves.

God wants us back.
