6/22/2008 ~ Know Thyself

┌─> Hearts may not know if in error.
... I know nothing against myself, yet I am not justified by this; ...
~ 1st Corinthians 4:3-5

It is important to honest with thyself.

Know thyself, ... but Jesus says Control Thyself.

What is the truth of our relationship with God?
~ Self knowledge is key to repentance.
Awareness is the wealth of wisdom.

... what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man
which is in him? ... ~ 1st Corinthians 2:10-11

We all know ourselves better than anyone else.
There are things in our hearts only we and God know.
The question for many is if they can know themselves.
How honest can we be with ourselves?
◎ We need to look for spiritual help.
~ We can be blind in seeing ourselves.
God sends help with friends, that we may see ourselves better.

           ┌─> Nathan exposed David’s sin.
... So David said to Nathan, "I have sinned against the LORD." ...
~ 2nd Samuel 12:1-13

David needed help.
Can you say, “I have sinned against the Lord?”

┌─> Paul rebukes Peter.
... when I saw that they were not straightforward about the truth of
the gospel, I said to Peter before them all, ... ~ Galatians 2:11-14

Peter needed help.
→ Not all can see personal errors.
New truth is required, and to ably act upon it for salvation.
All can choose a path of improvement.

... believe the lie, that they all may be condemned who did not believe the
truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness. ~ 2nd Thessalonians 2:9-12

Not dealing rightly with truth could lead to more deception.
Courage is required to do what is right though painful.
Getting mad will not solve the problem leading one away from salvation.

Choice in Thyself
↙ ↘

... they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the
apostles, "Men and brethren what shall we do?" ... ~ Acts 2:37-38

One must want the truth over all – this is righteousness.

... heard these things they were cut to the heart,
and they gnashed at him with their teeth. ~ Acts 7:48-54

Mad or repentant?
Cain killed Abel because of his sin.

... "Brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?"
~ Matthew 3:7

"... 'God, be merciful to me a sinner!' I tell you, this man went down
to his house justified rather than the other; ..." ~ Luke 18:9-14

One is more justified with God if you confess the truth.
Test of truth: Do you have the right attitude about truth?
Do you seek after the truth?

Do you pray like David? <─┐
Who can understand his errors? Cleanse me from secret faults. ...
~ Psalm 19:12-14

We all need to correct things we do wrong,
~ to become better in the eyes of God.
◎   ◎
A real person would want to make any correction
to become more whole.

  • Do you pray to God to send you the truth?
  • Do we pray for circumstances to expose our errors?
  • Do you pray for your faults to be revealed?
"... he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be
clearly seen, that they have been done in God." ~ John 3:19-21

The only way to heaven is to expose the truth.
Welcome the LIGHT.

... glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance;
and perseverance, character; and character, hope. ~ Romans 5:3-4

For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, ...
but the sorrow of the world produces death. ~ 2nd Corinthians 7:10

... is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. ~ Hebrews 4:12

God knows the thoughts of all souls.
We would all be better served if we do what is right.

... "Let everyone who names the name of Christ depart from iniquity."
~ 2nd Timothy 2:15-19

The hardest truth is the sins we need to repent of.

... that they may know the truth, and that they may come to their senses
and escape the snare of the devil, ... ~ 2nd Timothy 2:24-26

How you deal with your sin will determine either life or death.

See the truth for what it is.
