SERMON MENU SELECTIONS

7/27/2008 ~ Seize Upon Forgiveness


And behold, a woman in the city who was a sinner, when she knew
that Jesus sat at the table in the Pharisee's house, ... ~ Luke 7:37-43


~ A Pharisee and sinner are before Jesus.
1. A proud devout man.
                    2. A regretful woman of lower class.


"... not conforming yourselves to the former lusts, as in your ignorance;
but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy ... ~ 1st Peter 1:13-16

~
The Pharisee is in a competition of thoughts with Jesus
                           └─> ~ He is not a prophet.


... Then He turned to the woman and said to Simon,
"Do you see this woman? ... ~ Luke 7:43-48


Jesus turned from His elitist host to this incidental riff-raff.
1. Simon was not thanked.
  2. The woman was thanked.


"... which of them will love him more?" Simon answered and said,
"I suppose the one whom he forgave more." ~ Luke 7:41-43


LVE is the key to dedication.
Those forgiven MORE are much more grateful.
No one is little in the Kingdom of God.
It is the greatness of people in recovery.


... whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest
in the kingdom of heaven. ... ~ Matthew 18:4


~ An appreciation of Jesus’ refreshing incorrigible compassion.
It is not about the place of church.
It is about coming to Jesus.


HYPOCRITE GENUINE

... while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. ~ Romans 5:8

SIN = DEBT

When we sin, it hurts God.
God is personal, as a Father, even if the children ignore His wishes.

Revive me, O LORD, for Your name's sake! For
Your righteousness' sake bring my soul out of trouble. ~ Psalm 143:11


When we sin against God, it is personal.

"He who is not with Me is against Me,
and he who does not gather with Me scatters." ~ Luke 11:23


... "I have sinned against the LORD." ... ~ 2nd Samuel 12:13

Sin should cause grief.
                         
... Blessed is the man to whom the LORD does not impute iniquity,
And in whose spirit there is no deceit. ... ~ Psalm 32:1-5


... cleanse me from my sin. For I acknowledge my transgressions,
And my sin is always before me. ... ~ Psalm 51:1-13


A sinful regretting woman weeps for God.

Then He said to her, "Your sins are forgiven." ~ Luke 7:48

One sin is too much to bear.
What will you do for Jesus?

- Pray to Him
- Talk about Him
- Study about Him

... three times that day, and prayed and gave thanks before his God, ...
~ Daniel 6:10


        - Love Him more
        - Appreciate Him more
        - Learn Him more

To the Lord our God belong mercy and forgiveness,
though we have rebelled against Him." ~ Daniel 9:9


Do you cry for the Lord?
Is your regret for your sins?

... He said to the woman, "Your faith has saved you. Go in peace."
~ Luke 7:49-50


... and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will
guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus ~ Philippians 4:6-7


Are you in harmony with God?

For God has not given us a spirit of fear,
but of power and of love and of a sound mind. ~ 2nd Timothy 1:7


Victory through Christ.

... we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.
~ Colossians 1:13-14


Life given by God.

" '... that they may receive forgivness of sins and an inheritance among
those who are sanctified by faith in Me.' " ~ Acts 26:18


... For if we died with Him, We shall also live with Him. ...
~ 2nd Timothy 2:11-13


One must purpose the self to God
~ else one slips lost in self.
