9/21/2005 ~ Being A Christian


What it means to be a Christian.

"And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."
~ John 8:32


... that you love one another; as I have loved you, ... ~ John 13:34-35

It is Impossible to be a Christian
and not follow His Words.


"You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, ..." ~ Deuteronomy 6:5

... 'You shall love the LORD you God with all your heart, with all your soul, ...'
~ Matthew 22:37


... he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder ...
~ Hebrews 11:6


We must love God with our all as well as other human beings.

             ┌─> The love of the Father and the Son.

... whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life."
~ John 3:16


... And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us ... ~ Ephesians 5:1-7

We are told how to love as Christians.

~ It's about people.
~ It's about family.

Living by God's word delivers happy families.

It's about being together and learning.
Appreciating His word in faith; expressing our gratitude.


... But only speak a word, and my servant will be healed. ... ~ Matthew 8:5-13

Our faith must be in Love.

... avails anything, but faith working through love. ~ Galatians 5:6

Submission / Obedience / Conformity

... be holy in all your conduct, because it is written, "Be holy, for I am holy."
~ 1st Peter 1:13-16


... be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. ...
~ James 1:21-25


... "Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of
Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; ... ~ Acts 2:36-39


There was a problem in Cornith,
but they were still in the church of Christ.


                      ┌─> They are God's people now.
                           ├─> They were added to the church.

... And many of the Corinthians, hearing, believed and were baptized.
~ Acts 18:8


... not to keep company with sexualy immoral people. ...
~ 1st Corinthians 5:9-11


The common bind is the blood of Jesus Christ

┌─> Is Christ divided?
... that there are contentions among you. ... ~ 1st Corinthians 1:10-13

We base our faith on Jesus Christ.

... whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess
before My Father ... ~ Matthew 10:32-33


... eagerly waiting for the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ, ...
~ 1st Corinthians 1:4-8


For in fact the body is not one member but many. ~ 1st Corinthians 12:14

... obeying the truth through the Spirit in sincere love of the brethren, ...
~ 1st Peter 1:22


... laying aside all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all evil ...
~ 1st Peter 2:1-3


Receive one who is weak in the faith, ... ~ Romans 14:1

... who are strong ought to bear with the scruples of the weak, ...
~ Romans 15:1


┌─> Didn't prove they were good Christians.
Now you are the body of Christ, and members individually. ...
~ 1st Corinthians 12:27-31


It was in the use.
Talent does not necessarily include spiritual maturity.


... but have not love, I am nothing. ... ~ 1st Corinthians 13:1-13

... brethren, I do not want you to be ignorant: ... ~ 1st Corinthians 12:1


  1. Salvation of a soul.

  2. Presentation of God's word.

  3. Confirmation of God's word.  



... it is the same God who works all in all. ... ~ 1st Corinthians 12:6-8

... but the Spirit of you Father who speaks in you. ~ Matthew 10:19-20

Faith = by hearing and hearing by the word of God.

Paul wanted them to understand,
So men could be saved.


... abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.
~ 1st Corinthians 13:8-13


And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: ...
~ 1st Timothy 3:16


... His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life ...
~ 2nd Peter 1:3-5


Corinthian's were not paying attention.

       ┌─> He washed their feet.

"You call Me Teacher and Lord, and you say well, for so I am." ~ John 13:13

A disciple is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his master.
~ Matthew 10:24


As diciples we are open and teachable.
~ How to act.
~ We serve Him working hard to please Him.


... For of Him and through Him and to Him are all things, ...
~ Romans 11:33-36


... that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God,
... ~ Romans 12:1-2


... differing according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them: ...
~ Romans 12:6-8


... but all the members do not have the same function, ...
~ Romans 12:4-5


All people are unique.

Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil. ... ~ Romans 12:9-19

God teaches us how to live.

... Greet Amplias, my beloved in the Lord. ~ Romans 16:1-8

Many live in this river of life. We need to bond in the raft of unity.

Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep.
~ Romans 12:15


Don't slow down, keep going!
~ Pay attention to one another.
Don't ignore new visitors.

Go to funerals, it means volumes to the mourning
~ to receive brethren in numbers during these nibble moments.

Pray for your preacher, elders, deacons, and their wives.
Their paths are challenged with expectations of the congregation.

~ Live right, do right, and be an encouragement for others.

It's about saving souls!

We are not asked to be fools.
Do not cast your pearls before the swine, however,
may we not limit our benevolence and genuine love
to those who are not Christian.

We can Pray.

Belonging to Jesus is to be in service.

~ He died for me and now I Live for Him!
