10/5/2008 ~ Painless Repentance?


ADULTRY
  ┌─> An example of something bad.          

... But the thing that David had done displeased the LORD.

It was a low time for David’s life and for Israel.

... So David said to Nathan, "I have sinned against the LORD." ...
~ 2nd Samuel 12:1-13


David tried to manipulate his sin as if it were nothing.
Sin is opposed to God. 
      └─> Things eternally damnable.
~ David needed to confront his sin. 


... those who had practiced magic brought their books together
and burned them in the sight of all. ... ~ Acts 19:18-19

 └─> They admitted they were doing wrong.        

~ It is hard to confront self sin.

... warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity
to the law of sin which is in my members. ... ~ Romans 7:20-25


Do not be deceived: "Evil company corrupts good habits."
~ 1st Corinthians 15:33


Do we desire godly associations?

... exhort one another daily, while it is call "Today," lest any of you
be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. ... ~ Hebrews 3:12-15


Denial can stop one from doing the will of God.

"... you did not afterward relent and believe him." ~ Matthew 21:28-32

It is a sin not to admit one’s sin; ~ oblivious to it.

SIN = MISSING THE MARK

Whoever commits sin also commits lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness.
~ 1st John 3:4


One can not escape the judgment of God.
Debt does not go away if it opposes God.
No pain, no gain.


Whoever commits adultery with a woman lacks understanding;
He who does so destroys his own soul. ~ Proverbs 6:32


... "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do." ...
~ Luke 23:34


We must reconcile our sin with God.
People admit their sin but don’t want to tell anyone.
God has offered to wash our sins away and to start new.


... "Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of
Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; ... ~ Acts 2:37-38


BELIEVE GOSPEL
REPENT OF YOUR SIN
ACKNOWLEDGE YOUR SIN

"... for the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost."
~ Luke 19:10


Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man
with his deeds, and have put on the new man ... ~ Colossians 3:9-11


Repentance is a difficult thing to achieve.

" 'For you did it secretly, but I will do this thing before all Israel,
before the sun.' " ~ 2nd Samuel 12:12


It is painful to publically admit sin.

... Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, Whose sin is covered. Blessed
is the man to whom the LORD does not impute iniquity, ... ~ Psalm 32:1-5


... my sin is always before me. Against You, You only, have I sinned,
And done this evil in Your sight ... ~ Psalm 51:1-4


When David sinned, he acknowledged his sin to God and to all of Israel.
~ Confess your faults and you will be set free.


STEPS TO FORGIVENESS:
1. REPENT
2. ACKNOWLEDGE
3. CONFESS
4. FORGIVENESS

... though you were slaves of sin, yet you obeyed from the heart that form of
doctrine to which you were delivered. And having been set free from sin,
you became slaves of righteousness. ... ~ Romans 6:17-22


Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another,
that you may be healed. ... ~ James 5:16


REPENTANCE = CHANGE
Turn Your Life Around

... Zacchaeus who was a chief tax collector, and he was rich.
And he sought to see who Jesus was, ... ~ Luke 19:2-10


... Though hard, I can do this.

... whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father
who is in heaven. But whoever denies Me before men, ... ~ Matthew 10:32-33


Sin is what wars against your soul; do you lean on God or yourself?

"... sin lies at the door. And its desire is for you, but you should rule over it."
~ Genesis 4:7


Repentance is fleeing from the Devil everyday.

... learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart,
and you will find rest for your souls. ... ~ Matthew 11:28-30


Do you desire eternal life?
The burden of sin is not bearable.
Would you choose to bear your own burden.
Put on the burden of righteousness and holiness.

CHOICE: WORLDLINESS OR RIGHTEOUSNESS?
~ YOU WILL KNOW.

"... pray God if perhaps the thought of your heart may be forgiven you."
~ Acts 8:22
