3/9/2008 ~ Own Your Own Faith

... I know whom I have believed ... ~ 2nd Timothy 1:12

We are here to help others own their own faith.
Itís not about the church, it comes from the self;
Church can not validate oneís faith.

Faith that is in you. <─┐

... I call to remembrance the genuine faith that is in you, ...
~ 2nd Timothy 1:1-5

It can be difficult for one raised in the faith to own your own faith.
Sometimes tradition spawns defiance for the desire of independence.
Donít reject the truth if it is the truth.

... I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you ...
~ 2nd Timothy 1:6-7

Worldliness pulls us away from Godliness.

... the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life ...
~ 1st John 2:16

We all have inherited:
1. Lust of the Flesh
2. Lust of the Eyes
3. Pride of Life

                                     ┌─> On the inside.
... our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed ...
~ 2nd Corinthians 4:16

Church is not about traditions of man, - musical bands, sports courts,
kitchens and meals, entertainment activities, grand facades,
- to the glory of man and not exalting our One Living God.
One must stand against false teachings, practices.

But as for you, speak the things which are proper for sound doctrine: ...
~ Titus 2:1

Itís not about what men teach but what God has said. <─┐
The clichť ďGive me that old time religionĒ can be
traditionally dangerous in not practicing the will of God.
Itís what God has delivered
You have to think about it for yourself.
Faith can not be piggybacked.
Do you search for Godís calling?

... let each one examine his own work, and then he will have rejoicing in
himself alone, and not in another. For each one shall bear his own load.
~ Galatians 6:3-5

Because you attend church does not mean you have obtained salvation.
One must know that I have a Lord that does a good work in me.

Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. ...
~ 2nd Corinthians 13:5-6

Examine your own faith:
1) Donít Piggyback off of Others
2) Have Your Own Faith
3) Donít be Satisfied that You Know Enough

If we just come to church to listen or sit with others,
we may not own our own faith.

So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
~ Romans 10:17

It needs to come from yourself, through the word of God.
Faith is something one desiringly thirsts for.

... unless you utter by the tongue words easy to understand,
how will it be known what is spoken? ... ~ 1st Corinthians 14:19

God has made it simple to understand His will through His word.
We need to be equipped to clearly stand with God.

... power of God, who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, ...
~ 2nd Timothy 1:8-12

We need to work together, no man is an island.

"... kingdom of heaven is like a certain king who wanted to
settle accounts with his servants." ~ Matthew 18:23

As God offers forgiveness, He insists we do the same.
~ Hate and resentment blocks any genuine true relationship with God.

"For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father
will also forgive you. ..." ~ Matthew 6:14-15

... for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen,
how can he love God whom he has not seen? ... ~ 1st John 4:20-21

"... First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift."
~ Matthew 5:23-24

Fix yourself and be thankful, continue in knowing Godís word.

... put His hands on his eyes again and made him look up. ... ~ Mark 8:22-26
    └─> Two stage miracle.

One has to individually want to know God's truth of light for sight.

... "I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk
in darkness, but have the light of life." ~ John 8:12

Donít get comfortable thinking you know enough.

Bible Reading = More Come
Bible Study = Less Come

The truth can be fearful but avoiding it does not change it.
Owning your own faith contains personal knowledge
of the power of God through Jesus.

... who partakes only of milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness,
for he is a babe. ... ~ Hebrews 5:12-14

Do not be stuck in a complacent rut, salvation is something you pursue.
One needs to continually grow through self study.
└─> This is owning your own faith.

... lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness
but denying its power. And from such people turn away! ~ 2nd Timothy 3:1-5

Life is a choice:
- to be encased in Godís own word or manís self serving interests.

... led away by various lusts, always learning and never able
to come to the knowledge of the truth. ~ 2nd Timothy 3:6-7

~ Grow like you are a starving infant.

... as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word,
that you may grow thereby, ... ~ 1st Peter 2:1-3

Do you cry out for God?
