9/16/2007 ~ What Hung on the Cross?


... "Do not write, The King of the Jews, but, He said, 'I am the King
of the Jews.' " Pilate answered, "What I have written, ..." ~ John 19:17-24

JESUS OF NAZARETH
THE KING OF THE JEWS

Jesus hung on the cross along with a sign.
The Jews did not want the sign for it made them look bad.

Pilate wanted it because it made him look good with Caesar.
Pilate did not want to kill this innocent man and wanted
the Jews to feel the brunt of their murderous desires.

It was God’s message to us all.

                    ┌─> We are asked to give up sin.
... putting off the body of the sins of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ,
buried with Him in baptism, ... ~ Colossians 2:11-12

... And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. ...
~ Colossians 2:13-15

One sin is to much to bear upon our death.

     ┌─> He bore our sins.
... who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we,
having died to sins, might live for righteousness ... ~ 1st Peter 2:24

"And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors." ~ Matthew 6:12

Our sin makes us debtors.
                          └─> It’s punishing, eternally damnating.

Do you want to be a debtor when you die?

                  ┌─> A debt you could never repay.
"But as he was not able to pay, ..." ~ Matthew 18:25

He carried our sins on the cross to redeem our souls.

PAID IN FULL

Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle
of them, triumphing over them in it. ... ~ Colossians 2:15-17
        └─> You can NOW bank on Jesus.

... the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but
to us who are being saved it is the power of God. ~ 1st Corinthians 1:17-18
             └─> This is the power of Christ’s sacrifice for us on the cross.

The death of Jesus was the most powerful death known.
 ⭨ It represents the will of God. ⭩

Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law,
having become a curse for us ... ~ Galatians 3:13-14

Sacrifice holding unconditional love.

For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, ... ~ 2nd Corinthians 5:21

God has used what is foolishness to man to bring His wisdom to us.

... it pleased God through the foolishness of the message preached
to save those who believe. ... ~ 1st Corinthians 1:18-25

... of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, ...
~ 1st Corinthians 1:26-31

On The Cross
1. Jesus' Body
2. Lamb of God
3. Sign

The death of Jesus was a visible receipt.

I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live,
but Christ lives in me; ... ~ Galatians 2:20

If you want to be a Christian, leave your sin at the cross.

... that our old man was crucified with Him, ... ~ Romans 6:3-7

... Jesus Christ, by whom the world has been crucified to me,
and I to the world. ... ~ Galatians 6:14

We all hung on the cross.
Our sins dripping across His brow.
