11/4/2008 ~ Successful Civilization

Drink in the word of God, the fruits of His word.
It is important to our nation how children are raised.
Most parents love their children.

1. What do you want most for your children?
2. What is God's goal for your children?
3. What is the role you have for your children
to reach God's goal for your children?
4. What part does the church play in helping
     your children reach that goal?
5. Do children copy and imitate their parents?
6. How do parents most effectively teach their
     children? - Problems to overcome.

What will they be?             Who will decide?
Will they be lost or found?

Servants-of-the-church, Teachers, Evangelists, Elders, Brothers, Fathers, Saved
or
Divorced, Drug-addicts, Atheists, Homosexuals, Murderers, Suicidal, Liars, Lost

Humility is admitting we do not know all and need help.

Who will decide:
They will of their free will.

                                                              ┌─> Learn by imitating parents.
Parents have to stay strong.
└─> Genetics.

Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old
he will not depart from it. ~ Proverbs 22:6

    └─> General principle.

Parents help train the conscience of their children.

... visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and
fourth generations of those who hate Me, ... ~ Deuteronomy 5:9

└─> Long range benefits or curses will be passed on.

Children not being taught the knowledge of God
will have consequences long past any alive.
Spiritual forces set in motion do good or evil affecting thousands.
It is parents that inevitably teach their children.
Growing up is deciding to choose.

"... that you may fear the LORD your God, to keep all His statutes and
His commandments which I command you, ..." ~ Deuteronomy 6:2

... fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up
in the training and admonition of the Lord. ~ Ephesians 6:4

We have been commanded to teach our children.
~ It is a God given responsibility.

... "O my Lord, please let the Man of God whom You sent come to us again
and teach us what we shall do for the child who will be born." ~ Judges 13:8

Most young parents will ask, “What do we do now?”
Some lacking the responsibility of life turn to darkness.
With one million abortions in our country per year,
can you imagine what God will do to this nation?

... these are the statutes and judgments which the LORD your God
has commanded to teach you, ... ~ Deuteronomy 6:1-9

What do you want for them?
● Obedience to authority.
● To fear the Lord and respect Him.
● To know Him.
● To stand in awe of His creation.
● To stand in awe of His justice and Love.
● That we might live a godly life all of our lives.

... observe them in the land which you are crossing over to possess, that you
may fear the LORD your God, to keep all His statutes ... ~ Deuteronomy 6:1-3

1. To do them, obey the commandments, God
2. To keep all His statues & commands
3. That your days may be prolonged

We want them to have obedience with a purpose.

... that it may be well with you, and that you may multiply greatly as the
LORD God of your fathers has promised ... ~ Deuteronomy 6:2-3

That it may be well with you.

For through the voice of the LORD Assyria will be beaten down,
As He strikes with the rod. ~ Isaiah 30:31

Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path. ~ Psalm 119:105

Do you want children to walk aimlessly in life?
~ Obedience with a proper motive.

"You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart,
with all your soul, and with all your strength." ~ Deuteronomy 6:5

Purpose.

... "You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart,
with all your soul, and with all your mind. ... ~ Matthew 22:36-40

Love God with all.

... love from a pure heart, from a good conscience, and from sincere faith, ...
~ 1st Timothy 1:5

To teach them to love us, and more importantly, God.

TO TEACH THEM TO LOVE

Don’t miss out on loving your parents.
Do not miss your opportunity to care for an aging parent.

How do you begin?
1. With your heart

"And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart."
~ Deuteronomy 6:6

Actions speak louder than words
We can take them to church, but it is the word of God
in our lives that is the stronger teacher.

     2. Not perfect, but growing
Admit when you’re wrong and ask for forgiveness.

"... I have come that they may have life, and that they may
have it more abundantly." ~ John 10:10

We have life to give to our children.
Not frustration, death and disappointment,
~ It is life that we impart upon our children.

"... You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall
talk of them when you sit in your house, ..." ~ Deuteronomy 6:6-9

Life Linked words.
Let them see the words are in your life.
~ It has to be the living word.
3. Living Words

"... I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing;
therefore choose life, ..." ~ Deuteronomy 30:15-19

Choose life over death.
Choose reality.

"It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. ..." ~ John 6:63

"... 'Man shall not live by bread alone, but every word that proceeds
from the mouth of God.' " ~ Matthew 4:4

It is how we live, by the word of God; real living.

Sanctify them by your truth. Your word is truth. ~ John 17:17

TRUTH = REALITY

Reality of Fiction?   You decide.
If you treat the Bible as the living words of God you will prosper.

"... You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates."
~ Deuteronomy 6:7-9

Conduct your life as lived for the true living word.

... hear your words, but they do not do them; for with their mouth they
show much love, but their hearts pursue their own gain. ... ~ Ezekiel 33:30-33

... persecutions I endured. And out of them all the Lord delivered me.
~ 2nd Timothy 3:10-11

Imitate me, just as I also imitate Christ. ~ 1st Corinthians 11:1

Your children, what will happen to them if they imitate you?
~ Accept the higher responsibility.
God intended for us to teach one another.
Set the example – keep trying.
1. Love God
2. Love others
                          └─> Includes our children.

Let people see how much you love and respect God.
Challenge tradition if it lacks scriptural authority.

Five pillars of a Spiritual Life:

1. LOVE OF TRUTH,
2. GROWING CHARACTER
3. HUMILITY AND GLORY OF WORSHIP
4. JOY OF SACRIFICIAL SERVICE
5. STRENGTH OF CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP
What God wants of us.

... children of one's youth. Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them; ...
~ Psalm 127:3-5

Time is short, ~ eleven or twelve and off they go.

They will be alot like You ...
